FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator tells me how big my gold position should be?

The position size calculator answers that question. You enter your account balance, the percentage you are willing to risk and your stop distance in pips, and it returns a lot size for XAU/USD, where 1 standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01. Run it before every trade rather than sizing by feel.

How do I convert a gold price move into dollars and cents?

The pip value calculator converts a move into money. Because one pip on XAU/USD is 0.01 and one standard lot is 100 oz, a one-pip move on a full lot is a defined dollar amount, scaled down for smaller sizes. Enter your lot size and the tool shows the value per pip, so you can compare a stop distance with your risk budget.

What is the margin calculator for if I already know my lot size?

The margin calculator shows the deposit your broker will hold while the position is open, given your lot size, the current price and the leverage on your account. At up to 1:200, a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50. That is a cap rather than a target, and higher leverage frees margin without reducing risk.

Can I model a trade's profit before I take it?

Yes. The profit calculator takes your entry, exit and lot size and returns the result in dollars, so you can see what a target is worth before committing. It uses the same contract specification as the other tools: 100 oz per standard lot and a pip of 0.01. It does not include the broker's own costs, which you should confirm separately.

What do pivot points add that the other calculators do not?

Pivot points give you reference levels for the session rather than a position calculation. They are derived from the prior session's high, low and close, and traders use them to mark potential support and resistance before the market opens. They are a planning aid, not a signal, and they do not predict direction.
